What Is the Real Difference Between Kraft Paper and Butcher Paper?
When it comes to Kraft Paper and Butcher Paper, there’s often confusion. Are they basically the same thing, or are they entirely different products? And is color the only difference? The truth is, all sides have a point—sort of!
Kraft Paper vs. Butcher Paper: Clearing Up the Confusion
If you’re like most people, you might think the primary difference is color—Kraft Paper is brown, and Butcher Paper is white, right? Not exactly. While brown Kraft Paper is common, it actually comes in a variety of colors, including white and even custom shades.
Similarly, Butcher Paper is most commonly white, but it’s also available in other colors. Pink Butcher Paper (aka Peach Paper) has become especially popular among barbecue enthusiasts in recent years.
The REAL Difference Between Kraft Paper and Butcher Paper
While they may look different, Kraft Paper and Butcher Paper start out as identical twins. Both are made from the same raw materials, sharing the same wood pulp base. The real difference comes from the treatments applied during the finishing process.
Butcher Paper is specially engineered for food-grade use. It’s treated to be stronger and more moisture-resistant than Kraft Paper, making it ideal for wrapping and storing meat, seafood, and other foods. Our Butcher Paper is FDA-approved, ensuring it meets the highest standards for direct food contact.
Kraft Paper, on the other hand, is versatile and can be used for packaging, crafts, and more. While it’s not typically used for direct food contact, its durability makes it perfect for a wide range of applications.
Fun Fact: The Origins of Butcher Paper
Did you know? The term "Butcher Paper" was coined by creative salesmen who sold it to butchers for wrapping and storing meat and seafood. Today, it’s still a staple in food service as well as the grocery and supermarket industry, but it’s also found in other applications like craft projects, gift wrapping, and more!
