Many businesses are aware that California's Prop 65 list includes bisphenols such as BPA and BPS commonly found in thermal receipt paper. More recently, Washington State passed legislation that will ban bisphenol-based thermal paper beginning January 1, 2026.

Across the country, states are tightening regulations on bisphenols, and businesses are encouraged to switch to Non-Phenol Thermal Receipt Paper – made without BPA, BPS, or other phenols – to avoid compliance issues.

In 2025, California businesses across retail, food service, and hospitality have already faced a growing number of Prop 65 enforcement actions related to bisphenols in thermal receipts.

California Law Explained:

In California, BPA- and BPS-containing thermal paper is still legal to use; however, a Prop 65 warning must be posted.

We encourage CA businesses to switch to Non-Phenol Thermal Paper Rolls. Otherwise, be sure you have the proper Prop 65 signage displayed to remain compliant.

Wshington Law Explained:

Washington will completely ban bisphenol-containing thermal paper beginning January 1, 2026. Businesses operating in Washington must transition to Non-Phenol Thermal Paper Rolls to remain compliant.

While all POS Supply Solutions' thermal paper rolls are BPA-Free, some products may contain BPS. POS Supply Solutions will no longer ship BPS-containing thermal rolls to Washington State as of January 1, 2026.
