Credit Card Imprinters: The Ultimate Back-up Plan

In years long since forgotten, a common occurrence in a retail shop or onsite for service providers was the click clack of a credit card imprinter in order to fill out a sales slip to accept payment. You may think that the days of the old knuckle buster have passed, but there are still a few good reasons to keep an imprinter on hand.

1. Power Outages

Losing business is never fun, especially when it is out of your control. Power outages can be planned or happen without notice from storms, flooding or even car accidents. By having an imprinter on hand during a power outage, you won’t have to rely on IOU’s or hope the power comes on shortly to complete a transaction. Using an imprinter may take a bit longer, but it’s nice to know that you won’t lose out on a sale.

2. Portability

Not every credit card processing terminal is portable. Businesses on the go such as antique merchants or plumbers are often out on the road when they meet their clients. Having an imprinter allows you to still accept credit or debit cards as payment even though you may not be in front of your credit card terminal. The flexibility allows for business locations that are anything buy typical.

3. Network Outages

Popular credit card processing terminals that provide payment options for flexible locations like Square or PayPal Here make it convenient to be offsite. Seemingly the only flaw is that they rely on a network in order to process payments. In areas of unreliable networks or without a wifi connection, having a reliable imprinter around allows you to continue your business without waiting for a signal.

Accepting payment is an incredible resource to help keep you in business. While credit card imprinters may not be flashy or newsworthy, they are certainly a time-tested way to accept credit from your customers.
