4-Way Counterfeit Detector System, UV, MAG

The 4-Way Counterfeit Detector is a reliable tool for spotting counterfeit bills, credit cards, money orders, passports, driver's licenses and other documents. It is loaded with four powerful features for easy counterfeit detection. The UV Light spots embedded security stripes on currencies. The Light Box detects watermarks on bills and legal documents. The Magnetic Ink Sensor beeps and lights up the red LED when a real US bill is passed over it. This feature is designed to work on older bills without a security stripe or a watermark. Finally, the Micro-printing Counterfeit Detection is used to clearly see the micro-printed words on a bill or document. It even has a US Currency Chart which helps you easily locate the security threads, watermarks and magnetic ink you should find on US Currency.

1. Ultraviolet Counterfeit Detection – can detect if paper or currency and other official documents (including credit cards, driver’s licenses, travelers checks, passports, and green cards) are authentic or counterfeit. The ultraviolet light allows you to see fluorescent strips, dots, or other markings used on authentic bills and documents. The special fibrous paper that currency is make from is not fluorescent, where as a counterfeit bill printed on bleached or white paper will reflect ultraviolet light, causing the bill to glow.

To use Ultraviolet counterfeit detection:

  1. Flip the Ultraviolet/Watermark selector switch from “I” to “O” (on the front of the unit).
  2. Place the bill or document under the UV lamp. If the bill has fluorescent ink or fibers, the bill will glow.

Note: As bills age, the UV strip gets duller and colors may change. Therefore, failure to detect the security strip, especially in older bills, does not guarantee the bill is counterfeit, only suspect.

2. Magnetic Ink Counterfeit Detection – is used to determine if there is magnetic ink present on a bill or document. Special magnetic ink is found on all US bills (even $1s and $2s). This is found by rubbing the bill or document over the magnetic head on the machine. If there is magnetic ink present the unit will beep and the red magnetic indicator will light up. If the unit does not beep and the indicator does not light up, the bill or document may not be authentic.

To use the Magnetic Ink Counterfeit Detection:

  1. After turning the unit on, the magnetic head is automatically turned on.
  2. Rub the area of the bill or document that is supposed to have magnetic ink on the magnetic head.
  3. If the magnetic ink is present the unit will beep and the red magnetic indicator will turn on.

Note: Magnetic ink can wear off. Failure to detect magnetic ink does not guarantee the bill is counterfeit, only suspect.

3. Watermark Counterfeit Detection – the watermark verification window is used to verify that a watermark is present in a bill or document. If the watermark is missing or hard to see, the bill or document may not be authentic.

To use the Watermark Counterfeit Detection:

  1. Flip the Ultraviolet/Watermark selector switch from “O” to “I” (on the front of the unit).
  2. Place the bill or document onto the watermark verification window.
  3. You should be able to clearly see any watermarks that should be on the bill or document.

Note: Older bills (with smaller faces) have no watermarks. Failure to detect a watermark does not guarantee the bill is counterfeit, only suspect.

4. Micro-printing Counterfeit Detection – the micro-printing magnifier is used to clearly see the micro-printed words on a bill or document. If the micro-printing is missing, the bill or document may not be authentic.

To use the Micro-printing Counterfeit Detection:

  1. The unit does not to be turned on to use this function.
  2. Hold the bill or document under the micro-printing magnifier lens.
  3. You should be able to clearly see the micro-printed words and lines on the bill or document.
